The last few weeks have been a hectic blur of moving home, working, job searching, meetings, seeing friends and generally being rushed off my feet with bits and bobs about town. It was a drizzly grey day in London, I was tucked away in the Regent Street Starbucks in between meetings clutching a big mug of luke warm coffee, tapping away at my laptop feeling absolutely cream crackered. Although I love the fast paced way of life that comes with living in a city, you rarely get the chance to just stop and breathe. Every now and then the time comes when I can no longer fight those inner country bumpkin urges to pack a bag, hop on a boat and bob home to the Isle of Wight for a few days of sea breeze, chums, greenery and simplicity – so that’s just what I did.
… Packman, is that you?
I had the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time, woke up bright ‘n’ early and ready to get out for an adventure. But first, TO BAKE! I have seen so many blogs/vlogs on Tanya Burr’s infamous cookies and I thought it was about time I tried em’ out, so I wacked on Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business (top album) and got ma bake owwwwn.
When it comes to cookies, all you need is that foundation (butter, flour, sugar, egg), then you can add pretty much whatever tickles your pickle. I added chocolate chips and toffee sauce for that goo factor, you can never go wrong with extra GOO, it just tastes so GOO-d. errm.
I piled em’ into a box, still warm and oozing and headed out.
Since we were little, me and my chums have always be the sort to always be out and about either lost, covered in mud, worryingly hyperactive or all of the above. We would spend our summers wearing bin bags and running around the neighbourhood having silly string/foam fights, sleep in tents every night in the hollidays, roll down steep hills in sleeping bags and other strange antics. 10 years later and we haven’t changed (and probably never will). It was such a beautiful, blue skied Autumnal day, so we headed out to Firestone Copse for a stroll in the woods.
I have always been fascinated by the woods, I could while away hours just wandering and taking it all in. The cookies went down a treat.
… This is what I mean by worryingly hyperactive, we tend to return to around 14 years of age in each others company.
After spending a few hours singing (yelping and howling) at the top of our voices and attempting (failing) to make a den, we meandered back to the car and headed over to Bluebells Cafe for milkshakes.
Only on the Island will you find a cafe AND a farm in the same place. CAAAUUUTE!
Appley beach is one of my favourite spots on the Island. We are SURROUNDED by beautiful beaches, however this particular stretch of sand is the equivalent to my garden. It is full of memories and good times, it is also the best place have a stroll and just chill.
Surrounding yourself with lovely friends and family if only for a few days can do the world of difference and put things back in perspective. Where’s your favourite place to go for a little headspace? Also, HOLLA if you’ve been to the Isle of Wight!
